Learning is like climbing a mountain, I chose this metaphor because it resonates personally with how I have seen my own academic career go. I think heading into my fifth year I have learnt that this is an incredibly difficult and time consuming achievement but I know the end goal is so worth it. Learning is like climbing a mountain means although it’s hard and takes a lot of effort once you make it to the top you get to look down and know you conquered this incredible achievement. I think this metaphor is appropriate, it may not seem that way for everyone but for students who have found times difficult or wanted to quit the idea of finally one day getting to look at the amazing achievement it is all worth it in the end. I also think it is appropriate because for mountain climbers it is normal for them to have someone coaching them along the way, or for them to have friends doing it with them. In education we have our teachers, parents and peers that are all alongside us supporting us year by year and step by step.
I chose this activity because as I mentioned before I am entering my fifth and final year and I notice how burnt out I have become in the past year. I know I will be so thankful I did all of this but at times it is hard to look at the effort I am putting in and feeling proud of it. I have always liked using metaphors in life when current moments in life are difficult or when they are so amazing its hard to believe. When I saw that this was an option for an activity I knew it would resonate with me personally. I like to be creative and enjoy when assignments include pieces where you have the option to be a bit more creative.
Below is the quote, I wanted it to be plain and simple so the meaning of the metaphor did not disappear and it was the main focus.
